I’ve been a customer for about 3 years, and they’ve had a consistent stream of new product releases — ranging from pants to face masks.
As of this writing (Nov. 2021), Proper Cloth has the following categories on their site:
- Shirts (business, casual, formal, polo)
- Pants (jeans, joggers, chinos, 5-pocket, drawstring shorts)
- Suits
- Jackets
- Formalwear (Tuxedos, cufflinks, bowties, etc.)

As you can see, they have a lot of options. You can get just about everything but shoes as of now.
Designing/Customizing Your Own Shirt on Proper Cloth
While each shirt comes with pre-configured styles, you can always customize your own shirt.
The shirt customization feature contains 4 steps: Fabric, Style, Sizes, and Summary.
Fabric lets you browse from every fabric offering they have. There are filters for fabric/style category, as well as colors.
Style allows you to change everything, including the collar, yoke, buttons, and more.
You can also pick from presets, which will auto-select the options for each part of the shirt that often go together.
Sizes lets you pick from your showroom fit, or two “smart-sizes”: tucked or untucked. The smart sizes are based on your showroom fit. You can adjust the smart sizes if need be.
I’ve found the “untucked” option is useful for clothes that are less formal, like the flannels, or short-sleeved options.
Side note: I recommend the “Watch Allowance” if you wear any watch bigger than an Apple watch.
Prices on Proper Cloth
Let’s dive into the price ranges for the clothing categories on Proper Cloth.
- Shirts ($85 — $150)
- Pants ($125 — $250)
- Jackets ($475 — $795)
- Sweaters ($175)
So far, I’ve purchased shirts (3 business and 2 casual). Shirts are the reason I became a customer in the first place.
For around $100 dollars, these perfectly fitted shirts are around the same price point of some mid-tier off-the-rack clothing. To me, the best value is in the shirts.
Honestly, I couldn’t see myself buying any pants from this site that are over $125, but if finding pants that fit is your pain point, it may be worth it.
With that in mind, you can get $5 for reviewing each of your purchases, and here’s my $20 promo code again. I’ve heard of people getting $35 for adjusting their smart sizes, but I can’t personally speak to that.
All that is to say that you can find easy ways to trim off some of the total price of your items.
Getting Fitted at a Proper Cloth Showroom
Proper Cloth has two showrooms, both in New York City (one in Soho, the other in Midtown).
Booking an in person appointment is straightforward. Select your preferred date, followed by time of day (each fitting takes under 30 minutes).
Once you’re there, a member of their staff will take your measurements, and add them to your account.
As an incentive to get you to buy your first shirt, they give you a percentage off of your first order.
You can browse their options in-store, or browse online (you’ll ultimately place the order online as you’ll now have your measurements).
If you don’t plan on being there for long, it could help to have something already in mind.
Between the first order incentive and my referral code, you stand to shave a good amount off of your first order.
Getting Fitted Online
If you’re not in NYC, you can still get fitted online.
Depending on the clothing type, they give you multiple options on how to get your ideal fit.
Whether booking a virtual fitting with one of their reps, or answering questions on their smart-size quiz, you’ll get the specs you need.
If you place your first order and find it’s not to your liking, you can get it replaced, and even adjust your sizes within your profile to enable the perfect fit.
Proper Cloth’s Customer Service
Proper Cloth has great customer service; here are some of the key points:
- Actual people respond to emails (no automated responses)
- You can return or remake any shirt for free, once per shirt (return shipping labels are included with every order, or you can return it in-store)
Style Guides on Proper Cloth
If you’re looking for fashion inspiration, they have some great content to help you build out outfits, or an entire wardrobe.
Collections
For starters, they have collections. The collections are named after the exotic locations that they’re shot in, and they feature an overview of all the pieces used throughout the shoot.
Additionally, if you’re scrolling through a specific collection, each image has a “Shop Items” button, which shows you the specific products in that given image.
The collections on Proper Cloth are a great way to shop for specific looks or occasions.
If you’re looking for a broader understanding of seasonal styles, color matching, and more, then the seasonal selects are a great resource.
Seasonal Selects
Seasonal selects, as the name implies, dives into the staples of a given season.
Here, you can hone in on a specific fabric, or even color, to learn more about ways to step up your style around the year.
Take the “Pine” seasonal selection, for example. In it, they layout the fabrics and clothing options they offer, along with color matching guides so you can best coordinate an outfit.
The seasonal selects are great if you’re looking for specific insight into colors and fabrics.

How many countries does Proper Cloth ship to?
They ship to 40 countries, here’s a complete list of available countries.
Does Proper Cloth have free shipping?
Orders over $250 qualify for free shipping. Otherwise, there’s a $15 flat rate for shipping on shirts, pants, and suits (in the US). Pre-stocked items ship free.
Can Proper Cloth ship to P.O. Boxes?
Yes, but these orders must first go to a Proper Cloth office, which adds about a week to the shipping time.
Is there rush shipping?
No, you can’t order rush shipping on custom-made items.
Is there in-store pickup available?
Yes, you can ship your order to a Proper Cloth store, but it doesn’t remove any shipping fees.
